The Legislative Correspondents\u2019 Association Show typically takes place during a relatively quiet period in Albany. But not this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThose of you who thought we\u2019d have a budget by the LCA Show? You just lost big on Kalshi,\u201d Gov. Kathy Hochul joked on stage. \u201cThat\u2019s how we filled New York City\u2019s budget gap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hochul and the Capitol press corps traded barbs at the 124th annual benefit \u2013 a perfect comedy show for the kind of New York political nerds who laugh at singing \u201cMike Gianaris\u201d to the tune of \u201cBootylicious\u201d or \u201cOh, Edward Ra\u201d to \u201cO Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n

City & State\u2019s Kate Lisa played Hochul, nailing the governor\u2019s Buffalo accent in her take on \u201cMamma Mia\u201d with City & State\u2019s Rebecca Lewis as Karen Persichilli Keogh and Aoife Forbes of \u201cThe Capitol Pressroom\u201d as Director of State Operations Jackie Bray.<\/p>\n

The governor enjoyed laughs throughout the evening, but she wasn\u2019t particularly smiley after certain lines in the number, like \u201cKathy Hochul, here she goes again\/ Our gov, accidental leader!\/ No, I\u2019m not that inspiring\/ Government\u2019s awfully tiring.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hochul brought her A-game to her rebuttal, though. Embracing her \u201cwrath of Kath\u201d persona (with an image emblazoned on T-shirts tossed to the crowd), she donned a leather jacket and entered the stage through a cloud of smoke.<\/p>\n

She kept it loose, and confidently poked fun at her political enemies, calling former Gov. Andrew Cuomo a \u201cwashed-up AM radio host,\u201d writing off Rep. Elise Stefanik for getting \u201cpassed over by her boss for a promotion, twice\u201d and joking that Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado is searching for a new job as a billboard lawyer (but only after Streetsblog\u2019s Austin Jefferson rocked a robe and slippers as he sang \u201cDelgado\u201d to the tune of \u201cTomorrow\u201d from \u201cAnnie\u201d). Hochul even made nice with one of her chief adversaries, state Sen. James Skoufis: To make up for his transgressions, she suggested he\u2019d been doing time in the furry costume as cellphone ban mascot Frankie Focus. Sure enough, Skoufis appeared on stage in full Frankie attire. Take that, Matt Damon.<\/p>\n

Hochul got her own celebrity boost, though. Alec Baldwin played President Donald Trump in a prerecorded video skit, imploring Hochul to name it \u201cCen-Trump Park\u201d or \u201cthe Trumpen Zee Bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruce Blakeman, on the other hand, missed the show to attend the state Republican dinner at The Plaza in Manhattan Tuesday night. His recorded rebuttal wasn\u2019t well received by the crowd \u2013 but maybe the only moment that didn\u2019t leave the crowd utterly befuddled was when he awkwardly danced to \u201cICE, ICE, baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blakeman wasn\u2019t the only absence. LCA President Dave Lombardo said that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani couldn\u2019t make it. But that\u2019s not new \u2013 he didn\u2019t show up to Albany for session as an Assembly member either.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso unable to join tonight are Assembly Members David McDonough and Vivian Cook,\u201d Lombardo joked about the elderly legislators who are retiring this year. \u201cBut don\u2019t worry. They\u2019re being honored across town at City & State\u2019s first ever 90 Under 90 Awards.\u201d<\/p>\n
